No special subject today, just catching up.

I got my taxes done today.  I can’t believe I dawdled so long before doing them this year.  But they’re done, we’re getting about the same back as last year and I can breathe again.  Don’t know why I’m such a yutz about anything governmental but I’ve always been that way.

I have started researching GPS boxes again.  Our Garmin Nuvi 7 series  is four or five years old and the battery doesn’t hold a charge as long as it used to.  We rarely use it without aux. power, but it’s time to at least begin looking.   When we got this one (it was given to us by TDAmeritrade for depositing some money with them) there were only auto units available. Nowadays they also have RV and Trucker versions and we’re considering whether to stick with Garmin (in some version) or jump ship and try something else.

Magellan has an RV version with a 7″ screen.  It looks nice, has RV specific info but I was shocked to see that it only has a 30 minute battery life.  What’s up with that?

Rand McNally has one too but at this point I’m not so sure how much I like it.  It too has a 7″ screen, which compared to our existing 3 3/4″ screen seems huge.  The 7710 is a newer unit than the 5510 and it is RV specific with 8GB of storage for 14 million points of interest.  I may have to give this a good look-over!

Cobra the radio people also have a unit out. But I haven’t found enough info on that one yet to feel comfortable about it.

Garmin makes a 7200 series unit designed for RV’ing — but it’s almost 3X the price as the others. This is going to take some thinking.

They make a lower priced NUVI 465 that is really aimed at truckers — so I don’t know how good the RV info would be.  I guess I need to do some more research.
