Hot & Sour Success

The only problem with hitting the pool in the middle of the afternoon is that it makes one groggy for the rest of the day.  I’m not complaining, mind you,  just making an observation.

We were warmer this morning before the sun came up than we were on Christmas day — and we’re getting another short stint of mid 70’s temps before it cools off again.  That said, it was a good day for chores.

Peg got her wash done and for a change there wasn’t anyone else at the Resort Laundry so she didn’t meet anyone new.  We are seeing new arrivals and I’m adding new names onto my list of names I haven’t mastered yet.  It’s a losing proposition.

While Peg handled the wash I made small progress on the computer front.  I finally got around to updating my Silverleaf PC!  And I downloaded the Rand McNally software to it, so that I don’t have to bother loading X11 on the Mac OS every time I want to run the Rand McNally Docking software.  Might as well keep all that PC stuff in the same place.  Rand_McNally_Dock_Logo_230x95

Then I put the second coat of paint on the top of the picnic table and benches.  All I have remaining is two coats on the bottom side of the picnic table and that job is done.

Just have to paint the bottom side of the table and we're done with this project

I got a few things put away and the new coach is feeling more and more like a house and not just an RV.  It all takes time, but its’ a good feeling.

And finally, after over a year of looking I finally found a Chinese resto that has what I consider to be a good Hot & Sour Soup.  Ralph from Ohio had recommended a place in Brownsville called Lin’s Chinese Buffet and after a sort of odd Christmas, and a bland group meal,  I felt in a mood for some ZING.  So, down to Brownsville (using yet another different route — still trying to get to know the roads here) and over to Lins’ (which was amazingly busy in the middle of the afternoon.  The Hot & Sour soup was both — which has been rare at all of the places we have tried in over a year.  Lin's BuffetThere was a wide selection of Chinese food — including Polish Sausage, and Cheese Enchiladas, with brisket and hot wings as well as a good variety of the usual Chinese items.  I’m sure we’ll be back here.  We had a nice meal and still made it back in time to enjoy a good soak in the pool.

I’ve been thinking about the months we spent volunteering both in Wisconsin & in Oregon.  Ya know, we had a lot of fun — probably I had more fun than Peggy, but still, we stayed as long as we wanted, when we were tired of volunteering we left, never feeling taken advantage of.  Still and all, these days of actually being retired sure do past rapidly.  And at the end of the day there are still things I’m wishing I had gotten around to doing — had I not run out of steam and gotten tired.  Before retirement one wonders what one will do during retirement;  that’s never a problem for us.  Admittedly, we don’t do anything as rapidly as once we might have.  But then there’s no hurry now — and frankly, it’s wonderful not to have to hurry.

I added a couple new chores to my list today: I should get up on the ladder and fix the slight tear in one of our slide toppers while it’s a small tear & I want to pull all the electronics boxes out of the Driver’s side overhead — put them all on a slide out tray (which tray I have to engineer and build) and then remount them in the tray 20141226165636032014122616564304(Anything in those cabinets needs to be Velcro’d to the floor of the cabinet (or tray) lest it come look and fall on the driver’s head whilst driving down the road.  I hope, simultaneously, to discover the source of an annoying squeak when we are driving — it seems the squeak must be originating in that cabinet.

There you have it.  Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll talk with you tomorrow.
