dipping into our soul

I think there’s a lot of truth behind this quote from Henry Ward Beecher. The act of creation does not occur in isolation. Creation takes something out of the creator. I’m not sure how or whether that applies to God, but I know for sure it applies to me.

I took a lot of photos of family when I was young. But I noticed that when I made other photos — pictures from our family trips, or of things I was interested in — that they rarely included people. At the time I noticed this I actually went on a binge just doing figure studies to explore why it might have been that I fixated more on shapes and form than on personality. I had a good time doing so, but am not sure I “learned” anything significant out of the period other than creating a lot of beautiful figure studies to go along with a lot of beautiful photos of objects and creatures.

On April 23 I got notice that I’ve been blogging on WordPress for 17 years. That’s a “while.” Not a long time. I don’t view “long time” in years, maybe not even in decades. A long time should BE a long time and not relative to one’s own age.

All that time you reach down into yourself and find something you hope will be interesting to someone else. Or you just talk — like I do. About life. About what’s up. About what isn’t up. About what troubles you. About what amuses you. About something or nothing. But it comes from within. The idea may be someone else’s but the words have to arise from deep within.

And with them we paint a picture of who we are.

Thanks for stopping by, keep safe and healthy. Talk to you tomorrow.
