A child walking

The hardest and worst of my own personal life challenges are long past and thankfully behind me,  but that doesn’t mean that I have forgotten what challenges feel like. Particularly is this true with the birth of our first Great Grandchild.

The thing that amazes me about children is they never stop trying just because they haven’t succeeded at something.  In fact, at their young age they may not even realize what it is that they are trying to do — they are simply struggling to bring their own body and muscles under control and to find out what they are capable of.  No.  Instead of giving up, they keep trying and trying and trying.  Each time their muscles are a little stronger.  Each time their control is a little better.  Eventually they find themselves standing on their feet for the first time with help, and then for the first time alone — without help, and then they realize that they have accomplished something they weren’t even able to imagine when they first started.

Life can go on like that, if we want it to. We don’t have to give up.  We don’t have to surrender.  But we do have to keep trying.

Our daughter pulled herself up to standing in her crib way before she should have been able to do that. I think she didn’t quite know what to do then. She stood there long enough for me to go get my camera and take a picture. That still amazes me 50 years later.

    • Love it. Sometimes they really do amaze themselves and as you say, don’t quite know what to do next. 🙂 thanks for the comment. brought a big smile to my face.
