We may not have gone anywhere in the first couple months of our gig here but we’re making up for it now. Tuesday was chores day, and Wednesday we hit the road again in search of future summer hang-outs.
We picked out three RV campgrounds that offer seasonal sites and that met our preliminary online perusal. I’m afraid we didn’t make much progress other than enjoying a beautiful day away from the campground.
Lake Du Bay Shores. Never trust a website that give you beautiful pictures of scenery, but none of the campsites themselves. That was our experience here. You’re on Lake Du Bay, which really is a wide spot in the Wisconsin River between Wausau and Stevens Point. Alas, it was run down, and un appealing.
Rivers Edge Campground too proved to be unacceptable for us. There were more good points but with no site line to a satellite and a few little annoyances we decided it too was off the list. When you see a notice on the counter citing the presence of high sulfites in the water and the danger to young children it’s not some place I want to spend time.
The third on our list was Vista Royalle and this too was one of those places that show you everything but the campsites and the one picture they show of the campsites is not of the run-of-the-mill sites, but one of a very few in a sold out portion of the campground. The rest of the sites looked nothing like the example site. Do managers and owners really think that people are so gullible? No wonder most of the sites like the ones not pictures were empty.
When we add in a road closure on US-10 it made for a long day, but at the end we treated ourselves to a piece of pie from their extensive pie menu. I’ve been going here when the occasion affords for the past 30+ years and the pies are always home made, exceptional with 5″ meringue…. but unfortunately as they have gotten more and more popular the service has suffered. We might be nearing an end of our visits to the best pie restaurant in Wisconsin.
Still, it was a lovely day, and finishing any day with pie isn’t a bad way to go.
Thanks for stopping. I’ll be here again tomorrow to chat.
