OLD DIARY

The Land Without Sun Rise/Set

No Sunrise or Sunset pictures this year — have you noticed?  There’s a good reason for that.  We don’t see any!

Give you an idea how dense the forest is

We love the campground but were in heavily forested terrain, on top of a ridge  with a road that runs North & South right in front of us.  So, imagine a 40 foot swath in the middle of the forest.  You don’t see much on either side of the road no matter how hard you look.

I posted this image the other day when I was talking about equestrian trails but it gives you an idea of how far you can see. And the answer is:  Not Very.

This is the only Corp campground we have been to that is as closed in as it is.  We don’t mind it for a limited stay — it kind of spoils our evening sunset walk — there isn’t really any place that we can walk to where we could see either a morning sunrise or an evening sunset.  And it sort of spoils the effect if you have to DRIVE to your walk.  😐

Brad, our boss, came around and replenished our supply of shower quarters — one of our jobs to make change for the showers.  He brought along a couple containers of paint so that we can paint lantern posts and the vault toilets.  Phil the volunteer came around with the pressure washer to clean off the vaults so we could paint — looks like we won’t have any scraping to do on that account.  Brad is really happy with our work thus far and mentioned that one of our campers who had a mix-up on their reservation and required a little special handling commented to one of the rangers that we were their ‘Angels.’  That’s kind of nice to hear.  Sometimes you go out of your way to help people and, as I have said, they assume they were entitled to be specially.  It’s nice to have people acknowledge when you go the extra mile for them.

Well, I didn’t have many camping pictures to share, so how about something a little different?

Seilers Meats!

Seilers Meats!

We defrosted our refrigerator yesterday.  Today we finished the last of our meat (I know, I know — what happened with the vegetarian lifestyle.  But we’ll get back to it in time)

Last year we were using the ice maker in our refrigerator all summer and we had to defrost every 30 days or less.  This year I have been filling ice cube trays and making our own ice cubes and as a result there is less humidity in the fridge and (because the temps are lower this year as well) the freezer ices up more slowly.  I don’t think we’ll go back to the ice maker and I have turned off the water supply to the ice maker.

With an empty freezer, it was a good day to fill up again.  Todd the maintenance contractor suggested a new meat locker and we wanted to try it.  Their supply of brats wasn’t as huge — only about 40 varieties, but they have an wider over all variety of product.  We picked up a few things, as well as another couple packages of lamb.

2013080610320702Somehow there must be an infatuation with UFO’s in this area.  Seiler Foods is located in Elmwood and Elmwood has an annual UFO festival.  Not only a festival, but also they have these guys hanging around in the meat processing plant parking lot — I guess they must have good meat! 🙂

Thanks for stopping bye and I’ll talk to you tomorrow!
