Slowly trudging forward… Each day closer sees us a little more willing to actually verbalize some of our hopes and ideas about where to go and what to do. Understand that’s not something one of us — the quiet one — has been willing to do very much.
I love Peg dearly but we have very different coping mechanisms and she has always chosen not to think about things that “can’t happen.” That has always meant that I did the dreaming and planning and when eventualities came to pass she has always entered in whole-heartedly. For a long time she didn’t dream about retiring, until the date got really close — like a couple months!
That’s part of the reason I haven’t been talking too much about plans beyond Sept 17. Until we are in Journey and on the road with no Cudahy obligations will Peg really let herself dream. Until then a lot of “our” plans are still my plans. But that’s the way we have always been — each couple is uniquely themselves.
Monday was about clearing up the past and working on the future.
I got the last receipt from the inspection repairs — and more importantly the waiver of lien form. Funny how people worry less about numbers and more about whether you’ve been honest and actually paid off a bill instead of making it look like you did.
Peg got the lawn cut again. She’s been itching to get out there once again. After the mowing we got in a nice walk at Lakeshore State Park. This park is new in the Milwaukee area. It was just finished a couple (few) years ago and the motif is strictly prairie. There are docks located at the North end and a nice lagoon towards the South. If you are in the Milwaukee are it’s a nice walk and just North of the park you’ll find Discovery World, The MIlwaukee Art Museum, and the War Memorial Center — all major destinations in their own right. To the West are the Summerfest grounds and in a little over a month Summerfest will be hopping!
On the more frustrating side, two of our three Verizon lines are good for upgrades and I’ve been trying to make heads or tails out of their current plan offerings — and it’s been frustrating. I don’t know how anyone else manages their wireless account but I tend to put something into motion and then forget about it for as long as I can — in wireless terms that’s 2 years.
Every time we re-up our contract the old contract we had is no longer even available. For a couple who don’t make many phone calls but use a lot of data that means it’s easy to feel you’re getting abused because most plans are still heavy on phone and messaging and light on data.
On the plus side, though, I discovered that I may be able to drop our third line — a data only line. It turns out that the revised iPhone 4 can be used as a mobile hotspot. And with Verizon’s Share Everything that would mean one fewer device, one fewer charge and more data for the same charge. There are still a few things I need to check out but I’m getting ready to place my order.
And that pretty well brings us up to day. We’re down to 17 more days. I can almost taste the experience.
I’m happy to hear that Delbert is doing well on The Nina. He plans to stay on as a volunteer until July 4. I’m glad he’s been having fun.
Excitement is good.
